Weazel News

🎥 Organization Overview

Weazel News is the premier media conglomerate of Los Santos. We are the storytellers, the investigators, and the eyes of the public.

In Ruin Roleplay II Asia, information is power. The Government wants to keep the peace, the Police want to hide their mistakes, and the Gangs want to rule the streets. Weazel News exists to expose it all. Whether it’s a high-speed chase through Vinewood, a political scandal at City Hall, or a military strike in the Badlands—if it bleeds, it leads.

📰 The Power of the Press

Weazel News operates under the protection of the First Amendment. This grants our reporters unique privileges in the server:

  • The Press Pass: A government-issued ID that grants reporters access to areas civilians cannot go. This includes crossing police tape at crime scenes (with LSPD permission) and standing on the sidelines of active situations.
  • Investigative Immunity: Reporters cannot be arrested simply for filming a crime. As long as you do not interfere with the investigation, you have the right to record.
  • Political Influence: Weazel News hosts the Mayoral Debates, publishes opinion pieces on the LSPD’s performance, and can destroy a reputation with a single article.

📡 Specialized Departments

Weazel News isn’t just about writing articles. We offer diverse roleplay avenues:

  1. Live Broadcast Unit (LBU): The adrenaline junkies. These teams drive the News Vans and fly the News Choppers. They are on the scene of Bank Heists and Hostage Situations, livestreaming the action to the entire city.

  2. The City Desk (Investigative Journalism): Writers and detectives who dig deep into corruption. They interview criminals, expose shady business practices, and hold the Government accountable.

  3. War Correspondents (The Badlands Division): The bravest of the brave. These reporters embed with the Military Police (MP) or secure permission from Cartels to report from the “Red Zone” (Sandy Shores). They wear heavy “PRESS” vests and document the war for the safety of the citizens back home.

  4. Entertainment & Events: Not everything is doom and gloom. This division covers Car Meets, Club Openings, Fashion Shows, and the Lottery, keeping the city’s culture alive.

💼 Services We Provide

  • Advertising: Weazel News runs the in-game advertising for player-owned businesses. If you own a Mechanic Shop or a Club, you pay us to put your name in lights.
  • Crisis Alerts: In the event of a terrorist attack or natural disaster, Weazel News serves as the official Emergency Broadcast System for the Government.

🛡️ Relationship with Factions

  • Weazel & LSPD: A love-hate relationship. We need them for information; they need us for public relations. We film their arrests, but we also film their failures.
  • Weazel & The Underworld: Criminals love fame. Gangs often contact Weazel News to claim responsibility for heists or to send messages to rivals. We protect our sources.
  • Weazel & The MP: Reporting in the Badlands is dangerous. War Correspondents often sign waivers and travel in MP convoys to get the footage no one else can get.

Rules & Regulations

🎥 Section 1: Journalistic Integrity

We tell the story; we do not become the story.

1.1. The Truth Standard

  • No “Fake News”: You cannot invent major events that didn’t happen (e.g., “The Mayor is dead!”) just to get clicks. This causes mass confusion and Panic RP.
  • Verification: Rumors can be reported as “rumors,” but factual claims must be verified with evidence (photos, quotes, or official statements).
  • Bias: You are allowed to be biased (e.g., an opinion piece hating the Police), but you cannot slander other players with OOC lies.

1.2. Neutrality in Conflict

  • Non-Combatants: Weazel News employees are Civilians. You cannot carry weapons on duty (except for self-defense items like Pepper Spray/Taser, if legal).
  • No Participation: You cannot drive the getaway car for a bank robber “for the footage.” If you help a criminal commit a crime, you lose your Press Pass and go to jail.

💳 Section 2: The Press Pass & Privileges

The Press Pass is a privilege, not a right. Abuse it, and the LSPD will revoke it.

2.1. Crime Scene Access (The Yellow Tape)

  • General Rule: Reporters may stand at the police line (yellow tape), but not cross it unless invited.
  • The “Media Pool”: In major events (Bank Heist), the LSPD Incident Commander may designate a specific “Media Area” where you can set up cameras safely. You must stay in this box.
  • Interference: If a Police Officer gives a lawful order to “Move back for safety,” you must comply immediately. Arguing delays the scene and risks arrest for “Obstruction of Justice.”

2.2. Filming Rights

  • Public Domain: You have the right to film anyone in a public space (Police, EMS, Politicians). They cannot force you to delete footage.
  • Private Property: You cannot film inside a private business or home if the owner asks you to leave. That is trespassing.

🚁 Section 3: Drone & Air Operations

Drones are powerful tools in RP. They must be regulated to be fair.

3.1. Drone Neutrality (The “Spy” Rule)

  • No Scouting: You cannot use your News Drone/Chopper to act as a “Spy” for the Police (calling out suspect locations) or for Criminals (telling them where the cops are).
  • Broadcast Delay: Live feeds from the helicopter should have a simulated “delay” so you aren’t giving away real-time tactical positions during a shootout.

3.2. No Fly Zones

  • Restricted Airspace: News Choppers/Drones are strictly forbidden from flying over:
  1. Fort Zancudo (Military Base) – You will be shot down by MP AA guns.
  2. Bolingbroke Penitentiary (Prison) – Risk of aiding an escape.

🤫 Section 4: Confidentiality & Source Protection

This is the core of Crime Journalism RP.

4.1. Protecting Sources

  • If a criminal gives you an interview anonymously (mask on, voice changer), Weazel News is NOT obligated to reveal their identity to the LSPD, even under interrogation.
  • The Shield Law: You can protect your source unless the information involves an imminent threat of terrorism or mass death (e.g., a bomb threat). In that case, you must alert authorities (Value of Life).

4.2. “Off The Record”

  • If a politician or officer speaks to you “Off The Record,” you cannot publish that quote. Breaking this rule is poor RP etiquette and will ensure no one trusts you again.

⚔️ Section 5: The War Correspondent (Badlands Rules)

Reporting from the MP Jurisdiction is High-Risk RP.

5.1. “At Your Own Risk”

  • No Protection: The “Press Pass” has no legal power in the Badlands. Cartels may shoot you; the MP may detain you if you interfere with a military operation.
  • Waivers: Reporters entering the Red Zone usually sign a waiver with Weazel HQ. If you are kidnapped or killed by insurgents, Weazel News is not liable.

5.2. Combat Gear

  • War Correspondents are permitted to wear Ballistic Vests labeled “PRESS.”
  • You are not allowed to wear military camo. You must be clearly identifiable as media, or you risk being mistaken for a combatant.

⛓️ Section 6: Hostage Situations

Unlike EMS, Reporters are valid targets.

6.1. The Value of Fame

  • Criminals are allowed to take Weazel News reporters hostage. In fact, it is often encouraged for RP (e.g., “I’ll let the hostage go if Weazel News interviews me live!”).
  • Compliance: If taken hostage, you must Value Your Life (Fear RP). However, you are allowed to negotiate to keep your camera rolling during the hostage situation.
